Food and Nutrition
At Barton Day Nurseries, we are committed to providing children with nutritious, balanced meals that support their physical health, cognitive development, and emotional well-being. Following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and in line with the Governments nutritional guidelines including “Eat Better, Start Better”, we prioritise proper nutrition as a key factor in every child’s growth.

FOOD AND nutrition
Our experienced physical activity and nutritional coordinator works closely with our fully qualified chef to design menus that feature fresh, locally sourced ingredients. These menus are tailored to suit the specific needs of each age group, and we are proud to cater for all individual dietary requirements.
We ensure that all children receive a variety of their five daily portions of fruit and vegetables, with regular introductions to new foods to expand their palates. For babies, we offer freshly prepared lunches and dinners, and are experienced in supporting baby-led weaning practices.
Mealtimes at Barton Day Nurseries are a special time for social interaction, building confidence, and fostering independence. Children learn important skills such as taking turns, practicing table manners, and enjoying the meal experience. Older children are encouraged to self-serve and prepare their own afternoon snacks.
Throughout the day, we offer a variety of healthy snacks and encourage children to drink fresh water regularly. At breakfast, we provide milk and water, with formula milk available for babies under 12 months.
We take great care in meeting all dietary needs, so please be sure to discuss your child’s specific requirements with our management team during registration.
